The Cost of Hospice Care
Worrying about the rising costs of health care is something many families share. Across the country, people are caring for aging parents while also facing their own health challenges — and wondering how they’ll manage it all.
For nearly 40 years, the Medicare Hospice Benefit has provided peace of mind and practical support for families during one of life’s most difficult times. This benefit covers nearly all aspects of hospice care with little to no out-of-pocket cost to the patient or family, easing the financial burdens that can accompany serious illness.
Hospice care not only supports the patient but also offers emotional and practical help for loved ones — bringing comfort to everyone involved.
How Hospice Care is Paid For
Hospice care is typically covered through:
- Medicare Hospice Benefit
- Medicaid Hospice Benefit
- Most private insurance plans
If a patient does not have coverage through these programs, High Peaks Hospice will work closely with them and their family to ensure needed services are provided. No one is ever turned away due to an inability to pay.
What Medicare Covers
The Medicare Hospice Benefit covers nearly all costs associated with hospice care, including:
- Doctor Services
- Nursing Care
- Medical equipment (like wheelchairs or walkers)
- Medical supplies (like bandages and catheters)
- Pharmaceuticals for symptom control and pain relief
- Short-term care in the hospital, including respite and inpatient for pain and symptom management
- Social Work Services
- Grief Support
Medicare will continue to cover care for health needs not related to the terminal diagnosis.
Peace of Mind When It Matters Most
Hospice and palliative care take a team-based approach — combining expert medical care, pain relief, and emotional and spiritual support personalized to each patient’s needs and wishes. Families facing end-of-life decisions deserve compassion, comfort, and understanding — not financial worry. The Medicare Hospice Benefit helps make that possible.
“You matter because you are. You matter to the last moment of your life. And we will do all we can to not only help you die peacefully, but also to help you live until you die”.
